ORAL

Live typhoid vaccine (Vivotif) is administered orally (by mouth). It may be given to people 5 years and older. One capsule is taken every other day, for a total of 3 capsules. The last dose should be taken at least 1 week (7 to 10 days) before travel. Each capsule should be swallowed whole (not chewed) about an hour before meals with cold or lukewarm water. Shingrix is more than 90% effective at preventing shingles and PHN (Post-herpetic neuralgia). Immunity stays strong for at least the first 7 years after vaccination.

There is no maximum age for getting Shingrix.
The main difference is that Shingrix is more effective at preventing shingles (herpes zoster virus) than Zostavax (overall: 97.2% vs. 51%, respectively).
Shingrix is an FDA-approved vaccine to help prevent the occurrence of herpes zoster (shingles). Zostavax, a shingles vaccine made by Merck & Co, is no longer available on the U.S. market.

Shingrix is an intramuscular (IM) injection requiring 2 injections, with the second dose given 2 to 6 months after the first. In those who are immunodeficient or immunosuppressed and require a shorter vaccination schedule, the second dose can be administered 1 to 2 months after the first dose.
