Adults can have ADHD, too. About 4% to 5% of U.S. adults have it. But few adults get diagnosed or treated for it.
No two people with ADHD are exactly alike. If you have ADHD, you may be able to concentrate if you¡¯re interested in or excited about what you¡¯re doing. But some people with ADHD have trouble focusing under any circumstances. Some people look for stimulation, but others avoid it. Plus, some people with ADHD can be withdrawn and antisocial. Others can be very social and go from one relationship to the next.
Many adults with ADHD are not aware they have it - they just know that everyday tasks can be a challenge. Adults with ADHD may find it difficult to focus and prioritize, leading to missed deadlines and forgotten meetings or social plans. The inability to control impulses can range from impatience waiting in line or driving in traffic to mood swings and outbursts of anger.

Adult ADHD and Comorbid Conditions
Adult ADHD seldom exists alone. Roughly 60% to 70% of adults with ADHD have a comorbid disorder. According to a 2006 national study on adult ADHD :
Adult ADHD doesn¡¯t have to hold you back
When you have ADHD, it¡¯s easy to end up thinking that there¡¯s something
wrong with you. But it¡¯s okay to be different. ADHD isn¡¯t an indicator of
intelligence or capability. You may experience more difficulty in certain areas,
but that doesn¡¯t mean you can¡¯t find your niche and achieve success. The key
is to discover your strengths and capitalize on them.
It can be helpful to think about attention deficit disorder as a collection of traits
that are both positive and negative-just like any other set of qualities you
might possess. Along with the impulsivity and disorganization of ADHD, for
example, often come incredible creativity, passion, energy, out-of-the-box
thinking, and a constant flow of original ideas. Figure out your strengths and
set up your environment in a way that supports them.
